Many unwanted pets arrive at the Bangor Humane Society before they are quite ready for adoption. Whether they are too young, too shy, a little sick, or in need of some training, these pets benefit tremendously from a little T.L.C. in a qualified foster home before they become available for adoption.
Foster care givers must meet the following basic requirements:
Have a separate space available to house foster pets within your home - a separate space is defined as a room or area with a solid door that can be shut off from the rest of your home.
Current pets must be up to date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered
General knowledge of animal care and handling
A big heart!
If you are interested in opening your heart and home to care for such pets on a temporary basis, please read our foster care job description and fill out our foster care application. Your application will be reviewed and, if eligible, you will be contacted by one of our staff to participate in an upcoming orientation and to potentially schedule a home visit.
Applications can be mailed to 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401 or stop by the shelter between 12-6, Monday through Friday or 10-6 on Saturday to drop it off.
If you are unable to foster, please consider sponsoring a foster litter! We are also looking for donations of large, covered litter boxes - must be new - to use for litters in foster care. Call or email for more information about helping in these other ways.
If you have any questions or would like an application, please call a Foster Care Services Coordinator, at 207-942-8902 ext 102 or email fostercare@bangorhumane.org.
Thank You!
