Microchipping and Licensing
At Bangor Humane Society, we believe in taking preventative measures to help return your pet safely to you in the event that he or she goes missing. That is why all of our adopted cats and dogs come with a microchip included in their adoption. However, we offer these 24PetWatch microchips onsite at BHS, available to be implanted in any pet for $20 + tax and annual renewal fee! Our friendly staff have been trained to quickly and comfortably implant 24PetWatch MiniChips, for a more comfortable process for your creature that still offers maximum protection. These chips come with their own individual ID number that corresponds to your information, and registration is quick and easy via their website or phone service. For more information, please feel free to stop in or call us at 207-942-8902.
We issue a temporary license upon the adoption of any of our dogs that can be taken with you when registering your pet. The State of Maine requires all dogs to be licensed. When looking to license your owned dog, you will need to reach out to your local town office. You will need to show proof of rabies vaccinated and pay a small fee for the license yearly (fees are slightly higher for unaltered dogs). Please reach out to your town office for more information or visit https://www.maine.gov/online/dog_license/faq.html.
